Your Comfy Nest: Part 1 - Planning

All Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams furniture, lighting and accessories are on sale now through May 5th. It's a great way to save up to 25% on your new favorite furnishings! In addition to the sale, Weisshouse is giving a free copy of "The Comfortable Home" book written by Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams. "The Comfortable Home" helps you get in touch with your wants and needs. It's an easy to follow approach to designing your home in a beautiful and comfortable way...

The first chapter is devoted to planning. According to the book, "...planning begins with thinking about how you live and what changes could be made to your home to make your life run more smoothly. Then you need to figure out how to make these changes, affordably and in a style that feels natural to you." We couldn't have said it better ourselves! Another great tip is to ask yourself this question: What's the first thing you want people to see when they enter the room? Some things we love to see when we walk into a room are art, a statement piece of furniture like a great chair in a bold fabric or a perfectly made bed framed by eye catching nightstands or bedside tables. Check out the photos below for some items (all available @ Weisshouse) that YOU may want people to see when they first enter a room in your home and check back tomorrow for Part 2 of this blog series. Finally, don't forget to follow us on Facebook for even more design news and tips!

Made In The Good Ol' USA

There are always new trends popping up every year at Market. Green is here to stay. Menswear inspired fabrics are hot. This year, one trend was very popular: Made In The USA. According to Weisshouse designer and Market attendee, "That really seems to be taking shape as a new underlying theme, stressing quality...quick delivery...ease of doing business, etc." Interior Designer and best selling author, Lori Dennis (www.loridennis.com) blogged, "Thirty years of sending our manufacturing overseas has culminated in jobs lost forever and a nation left wondering where it all went wrong. Consequently the “Made In America” label has a brand new cache. People are finding strength in returning to American values and traditions, whether its comfort food , an old pair of Levi’s or the design of their homes. At Sotheby’s and Christie’s for example, American antique furniture and objects of art recently sold for record high prices."

At Weisshouse, we have seen an ever growing interest and desire to buy American-made vintage furniture. Premium plywood, solid wood, dovetail joints, corner blocking and other hallmarks of high quality, well-built furniture are being sought after by today's consumers. For more high quality, American-made vintage furniture, visit www.weisshouse.com or stop in our showroom and check out our amazing selection of Americana furniture, lighting and accessories. Comfortably Green

Since 1989, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams has been a leader in the green furniture movement. Just recently and just in time for Earth Day's 42nd birthday, they have decided to partner with Maryland-based environmental and activist non-profit firm, TREES FOR THE FUTURE. TREES FOR THE FUTURE has planted over 50 million trees across the globe! For the next 29 days (4/22-5/22), Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams will plant 10 trees for every piece of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams upholstery* purchased via their independent stores like Weisshouse and signature stores via their Plant-A-Tree partnership. What could that mean for the environment? They could plant approximately 40,000 trees across the globe in areas desperate in need of environmental rehabilitation. That's a lot of fresh air! Run (or bike), don't walk to Weisshouse where you can purchase anything from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. 1 Sofa = 10 Trees!

Mad About Furniture

So we know the clothes are amazing, the women are beautiful and the men are dashing. But, what about the furniture? Oh...that's the best part! Well, it's the best part for people who LIVE for furniture, that is (and we do). Arguably the hottest show on television, Mad Men is in it's 5th season and has never looked finer. Mad Men IS the 1960s that those who lived in the 60s wished they were a part of and for those of us who didn't, well...we can dream.

Everyone is obsessed with the "mid-century modern" look and no, it isn't what's in Granny's basement. Mid-Century Modern is new and old. It's fresh and throw back and it is EVERYWHERE. One of our favorite furniture lines, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams has interpreted the craze in their very own, very chic way. We have featured a few of our most coveted MG+BW looks below that have mid-century written all over them. In addition, Weisshouse has some very cool "real deal" mid-century pieces that Don Draper would absolutely have in his home or office. P.S. All Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams looks are currently 20-25% ALL special orders.
