What's In Your Sofa?

Does the thought of shopping for a new sofa send shivers down your spine? We hope not, but if it does, keep reading. Last month, The New York Times featured a comparison of couches that was complete with a graphic that illuminated the construction between two sofas that are similar in style, but very different in terms of cost. The author, Steven Kurutz had this to say: "Maybe it’s a matter of optics. Take cars, for instance. Put a Porsche next to a Kia and it’s easy to spot the former’s superior design and engineering and understand (to some extent) its inflated price tag. But show me two sofas, at the low and high end of the market, and I can’t see much difference between the $700 couch at Bob’s Furniture Barn and the B&B Italia model that will set me back more than ten grand. Both look more or less like cushioned boxes. Barring gymnastic mistreatment, both will likely still be upright 20 years from now." Fortunately, Kurutz was set straight by Magnus Breitling, director of product management for the chair maker Emeco when he stated the following: “There’s a lot of intelligence that goes into the product, not just in construction but in sourcing. The effort and time is much higher than with a typical Macy’s or Ikea couch.”

You can read the complete article and view the top to bottom comparison here. At Weisshouse, we proudly represent some of the highest quality furniture manufacturers in business today. We have built our business in only representing vendors who build good products. As Stacy Weiss always says “Buy quality and buy it once”!

Pretty Spring Pastels at Weisshouse

This spring IS all about color, but it's not just bold, saturated color that's getting every one's attention. Pastels are just as fun and offer a more relaxed, subtle approach for adding little pops of color into your home this spring. A few of our favorites include the following pastel colors: yellow, green (we are loving mint this season), purple and turquoise. Mixing pastels with neutrals like dune and gray offers a tranquil escape for the eye.

Check out a few of our favorite pastels (pictured) and stop by our showroom or visit our website for even more design inspiration. As always, one of our interior designers will be happy to show you how to "work" spring's hottest trends and put them all together perfectly!

Whose Etagere is it Anyway?

Merriam-Webster defines an etagere as piece of furniture consisting of a set of open shelves for displaying small objects and sometimes having an enclosed cabinet as a base. Weisshouse defines an etagere as a stylish piece of furniture meant to house some of your coolest collections including books, art, accessories and really, anything you wish to display in a thoughtful and fun way.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams manufactures some great etageres that are available at Weisshouse and on sale! Take 20% etageres and all MG+BW case goods now until May 4th. Stop by our showroom and let one of our talented interior designers help you choose the perfect display for your unique finds.

Fiberglass Is Fabulous

We just received two vintage fiberglass accent/dining chairs. The first chair, a red hot Steen Ostergaard was designed in 1968 for the company, CADO. CADO Company was founded in the late 1950s by renowned Danish interior architect, Poul Cadovious.

In addition, we have also recently acquired a "real deal" Herman Miller, Eames Armchair. This chair has been knocked-off by absolutely everyone, but this is a genuine Herman Miller model. This iconic chair is unusual in color: it's brown/grey and it's also in very good condition!

Over Sized Lights Done Right

When we came across this photo on our Facebook News Feed, we were delighted to see these industrial lamps used as sconces in lieu of traditional table lamps. We love the monochromatic color scheme and reclaimed wood/weathered wood headboard too. You can recreate this look with a little help from Weisshouse. We have a pair of similar lamps in-stock (see photo) and several beds that can be special ordered like the one shown.

Just Featured on Houzz: Stacy Weiss' Art Filled Loft

Stacy Weiss was just looking for a rental while trying to find something new to renovate when she stumbled upon an open space with tall ceilings and whitewashed bricks in the rapidly developing East End neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The new space allowed her to carry over everything from her previous home and arrange it all in a new, more loft-friendly way. With tall ceilings and vast, white-painted expanses, Stacy created an eclectic gallery filled with vintage and contemporary art. Her carefully chosen pieces of vintage and modern furniture play well with the art and the overall look is unique and reflective of Stacy's taste and personality that is also evident at Weisshouse. Read the complete feature compiled by Houzz contributor and photographer, Adrienne DeRosa here.

Sleek Vintage Collapsible Bar Cart

From time to time, we like to feature one very special item on our blog. This week, we wanted to highlight our Vintage Plastic and Metal Bar Cart with Wheels. A very similar collapsible bar cart was just featured and quickly sold this week on V&M (Vintage and Modern), the leading online source for unique vintage furniture, antiques, art, jewelry, fashion and design from around the world. We love V&M's take on integrating this piece into your decor: "The design can be a permanent part of your interior design concept or easily folds to be used when needed." We agree and think our it's a wonderful and very practical piece of furniture. Use it as a bar cart, a serving cart or a side table. We have 2 of them! Visit us 24 hours a day at www.weisshouse.com to shop for this bar cart and all of our unique vintage finds.
