What's New at Weisshouse? Color!

The hard-working and talented interior designers (and an intern) at Weisshouse just completed a massive undertaking at the showroom. This undertaking is also known as a whole store move that takes place several times a year, typically after our sample sale. We have just received and will continue to receive new merchandise all spring long. Below are several photos taken at Weisshouse that highlight new trends, vintage finds and classic, Weisshouse style.

Andy Warhol Inspired Color POPS In This Year

This year, it's all about playing it safe, but adding pops of color whenever and wherever you can! Last week, we blogged about a new Global trend, minimalism. Minimalism is defined by Merriam-Webster as "a style or technique (as in music, literature, or design) that is characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity." This year's minimalism trend means adding bright, colorful art, accessories and other various decorative touches to enliven and awaken your senses, mood and home. We were inspired by the work of Andy Warhol and particularly the iconic, pop art that he created in the 1960 s. Check out a few of our favorites below paired with a selection of pop art-inspired accessories that you can find at Weisshouse.

Just Arrived: New Works by Artist, Karl Mullen

Irish born artist and musician Karl Mullen is known for developing his very own unique approach to making art and materials to create his works. Often on paper or newsprint and pages from books, he primarily uses his hands to paint, Mullen uses walnut oil, raw powder pigment and a wax medium to create distinctive, colorful compositions with memorable figures. Weisshouse has just received a collection of unframed, original works by Karl Mullen that are currently available for sale at our Shadyside showroom. Currently, Mullen lives and works in the Berkshires, a vibrant community that embraces the arts and music in Massachusetts.

Please visit us at www.weisshouse.com for additional details. If you wish to purchase one of Karl Mullen's works, call or stop by our showroom during regular business hours.

Weisshouse Chimes in on Global Design Trends

There are so many new design trends hitting the pages of magazines like Interior Design, Dwell, Architectural Digest and Lonny Mag for 2013. Some of these trends have even gone global. One of the hottest design trends to go global is "Minimalism". There are many creative ways to approach this trend without looking too institutional. One of the ways a minimal interior can be both soothing and simple and playful is to use hints of bright, beautiful color! Choose your main pieces (sofa, chairs, tables, lighting) in a crisp white or soft, natural linen and choose colors that speak to you to elevate your interior and add some personality with accessories. Colorful striped wall paper, bright pillows, artwork and painted focal walls are all effective in adding just the correct dose of color. We love how husband-and-wife team, Katarzyna and Tomasz Widawscy favor minimalist, white interiors but added pops of color to make their clients with two young children happy. Their clients asked that bright color figure prominently in the 970-square-foot Warsaw apartment. Check out the complete story here featured on www.interiordesign.net. Create your very own minimalist interior with the help of Weisshouse and our talented team of designers! Visit our Highland Avenue showroom during normal business hours or visit us at www.weisshouse.com 24 hours a day.

Mitchell Gold is as Comfortable in His Skin as He is on His Furniture

Mitchell Gold, co-founder of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams recently appeared on Joy Behar's "Joy Behar: Say Anything!" where he discussed the issues that today's LGBT community faces. Mitchell Gold is also the editor of "Youth in Crisis: What Everyone Should Know About Growing Up Gay". "In Youth in Crisis, Mitchell Gold and Mindy Drucker asked forty LGBT Americans--from celebrities to youth-- to share their very personal answers to very difficult questions. Many discuss their long-buried feelings here for the first time. Several young adults opened up about suicide attempts, depression, fear, and isolation that are still a part of growing up gay (www.amazon.com)." These Are a Few of Our Favorite Sofas

Each one of our staff designers possess a very unique personality and sense of style to match. So it was no surprise that when I asked each of them what his or her favorite sofa at Weisshouse was, I received three very different responses. Ron Reinheimer chose the more traditional "Avignon" from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Stan Adamik selected the "Avalon" sofa, a more modern, minimal style. Betsy Daily's favorite is the "Loft" sofa. With a transitional silhouette and track arm, "Loft" is right between Ron's traditional "Avignon" and Stan's modern  "Avalon". Shop all three styles at Weisshouse and meet with Ron, Stan or Betsy and select your favorite!
