Stair Runners: A Statement for your Home

With easy access to Pinterest and Houzz, clients are often inspired and informed by the time they walk through our doors. These are great tools for clients to articulate their design goals, but it's our job to help guide through the process of making these ideas a reality.

A recent client found inspiration in the image on the left [via homebunch.com]. After choosing her paint color, she met with Weisshouse designer Adrienne to find the perfect pattern for her space.

Working along a curved staircase comes with its own set of challenges. Special consideration needs to be taken when choosing a pattern, and opting for a more subtle pattern and smaller repeat allows the line of the staircase to flow seamlessly. In the end, we chose a wool Wilton that would hold up through high traffic wear while complimenting her foyer.

Another client had their heart set on replicating a runner they had seen in a magazine while visiting DC [shown left, via Erica Burns]. We were able to spec everything as shown, however, after spending time with Adrienne in our showroom she decided to go in another direction.

Using a wool, rather than the pictured sisal, we were able achieve the same aesthetic while maintaining a softer feel. It's important to be realistic about what will work in your own space and meet the needs of your family's lifestyle.
