This past fall, we stumbled upon a large op-art painting by Marko Spalatin during our semi-annual trip to High Point Market. The oversized piece was visually striking, with rich high-chroma planes intersecting to create a deep sense of space.
This piece, titled Figure XXX, was composed in 1974. Currently Available at our Shadyside Showroom $6,800 |
We recently expanded our collection of works by Spalatin to include six color serigraphs composed in the late 1970s. Each piece is framed and matted in handmade oak frames.
Born in 1945, Marko Spalatin immigrated to the United States
from Croatia in the mid 1960s. Spalatin’s work is included in the
permanent collection of the MoMA, Musée d’Art Moderne, and the Tate
Gallery, among others. His prints and paintings have been featured in over 70 solo exhibitions
across the US, as well as in France, Croatia, Canada, Lebanon, Italy,
and Slovenia, and in numerous group exhibitions in 12 countries.
From the artist: "My work represents a continuous involvement with abstract geometric forms defined by careful manipulation of color and light. The relationship between form and color within the pictorial field demands a visually symbiotic presence. "
