Staying Ahead of Trends at SURFACES 2013

Every year, Weisshouse owner, Stacy Weiss and Weisshouse interior designer, Ron Reinheimer fly to Vegas for the annual SURFACES trade show to "shop" for the next big things in flooring for our clients. SURFACES is the largest US event serving the floor covering industry. SURFACES brings together buyers and sellers from all over the world to see the latest floor covering products, tools, services and technologies. SURFACES was held January 29-31 this year. Some new trends at this year's show are textured metallics and deep copper is the "it" metallic right now. Surprisingly, rose gold is gaining popularity as well. Another new trend, "rough luxe" is all about celebrating materials in their raw and most natural state. Finally, blond wood tones are coming back in a big way. Dark wood tones are still popular, but lighter wood tones used as an accent and a means of contrast will be more and more popular this year! Check out some photos from the show below.

Kitchen Must-Haves for 2013

Today's blog that focuses on kitchens was inspired by a Yahoo article titled "Must-Have Kitchen Trends for 2013". While we don't completely agree with all of them, a few of the tips will add value to your kitchen and we thought they were worth sharing.

1. Stone & Solid Counter Tops: solid surfaces have been popular for years. There has been a move away from granite toward less high maintenance materials like quartz. Stainless steel, butcher block wood and concrete are continuing to gain popularity.

2. Hardwood Floors: hardwood floors that blend seamlessly with the other flooring in your home is timeless. The less your eye stops, the larger your space looks (a known design tip). Engineered hardwoods and engineered cork flooring are and will remain a well regarded choice for any kitchen. * Weisshouse carries a vast selection of hardwood and cork flooring. If you don't see something you like at our showroom, we can supply almost any type of hardwood or cork. Just ask.

3. Mixing Cabinet Colors and Styles: the eclectic look works well for many homes. Whether your taste is clean and contemporary or fun and whimsical, Weisshouse can help you find the perfect mix of materials and styles/colors for your kitchen or bath. Working a little vintage furniture into the mix also adds an element of style.
