Pittsburgh Magazine's Home of the Year 2014

The modern, light filled home of Sewickley interior designer, Betsy Wentz was chosen as Pittsburgh Magazine's Home of the Year (Renovation). A typical 1970's home located in Edgeworth was completely transformed by way of a newly designed addition, facade and interior (mossArchitects) and a brand new custom kitchen along with furniture, rugs and carpet provided by Weisshouse. 

The bright, colorful home now suits this busy family of six perfectly. According to Pittsburgh Magazine's article, Home of the Year judge Louis J. Talotta says the hues make the home feel young. “I was very impressed they took what was a very ordinary, nondescript house and made it into a very pleasant environment, and the usage of color was truly wonderful,” he says.

Staying Ahead of Trends at SURFACES 2013

Every year, Weisshouse owner, Stacy Weiss and Weisshouse interior designer, Ron Reinheimer fly to Vegas for the annual SURFACES trade show to "shop" for the next big things in flooring for our clients. SURFACES is the largest US event serving the floor covering industry. SURFACES brings together buyers and sellers from all over the world to see the latest floor covering products, tools, services and technologies. SURFACES was held January 29-31 this year. Some new trends at this year's show are textured metallics and deep copper is the "it" metallic right now. Surprisingly, rose gold is gaining popularity as well. Another new trend, "rough luxe" is all about celebrating materials in their raw and most natural state. Finally, blond wood tones are coming back in a big way. Dark wood tones are still popular, but lighter wood tones used as an accent and a means of contrast will be more and more popular this year! Check out some photos from the show below.

Don’t Pull the Wool Over Your Eyes

Wool was once thought of as itchy, hot and uncomfortable. However, wool is a wonderful alternative when it comes to its synthetic counterparts. Today’s interiors can take advantage of the many advantages that wool has to offer in upholstery, bedding and of course, carpet and rugs. Not only does wool wear better and outlast synthetic based goods, it is a sustainable, earth loving product unlike petroleum based textiles and carpet.

The advantages of wool products are endless. First and foremost, it wicks moisture away from the body better than any other material, manufactured or natural, says Chris Lupton, Ph.D., a wool and mohair fiber expert at Texas A&M Research Center at San Angelo.
