Weisshouse Welcomes One of the Country's Leading Rug Experts

Mo Taheri, formerly of Shaherazad Antique Rugs and our very own Stacy Weiss have "tied the knot" or joined forces. Now a store-within-a-store, Sherherazad rugs can be found on the second floor of Weisshouse. While Weisshouse has been selling rugs for decades, this collaboration, Shaherazad at Weisshouse gives Weisshouse customers an opportunity to purchase rugs from Taheri, "one of the country's leading experts on antique rugs," say Weiss. Visit Mo Taheri and his beautiful rugs at Weisshouse.

Top 5 Ways To Invest In a Hand Woven Wool Rug

There are so many options out there when it comes to buying a wool rug. With the multitude of choices available to consumers, we wanted to help and take some of the confusion out of the rug buying process and we've enlisted Good Weave (text in quotes) to help.

1. Find a good quality rug dealer/retailer who will stand behind the products they sell and provide information based on knowledge. This is what brick and mortar stores are for. Buying rugs online can be tough and will often lead to an expensive mistake.  "The best rug dealers are born educators who love to share their knowledge with you and guide you without bullying. They will encourage you to take rugs home on approval without obligation."

2. Prepare for your new rug. Measure or schedule an appointment with one of our designers to measure for you. "Remember, you should probably have a border of flooring all the way around the rug. Allow for a range of sizes; the greater the range, the more choices you will have."

3. Do you prefer modern rugs or traditional rugs? If you aren't sure, this is another opportunity to speak with one of our designers and decide what style is best in your home.

4. Don't judge a rug based on the height of the pile.  "Inexperienced rug buyers sometimes mistake a thick pile for quality. In fact, the finest rugs often are the thinnest. Still, if a rug is going to take significant traffic, it should have plenty of body."

5. Finally, buy what you love. Don't listen to your friend or your neighbor. Listen to your gut. Buying a rug is just like buying art. When you see "the one", you'll just feel it:-)

Living Large In a Tiny Way

We just can't get enough design inspiration from Houzz.com. This week, they featured tiny living rooms and ways to add lots of style when you don't have much square footage. Houzz.com said, "Making a small living room work is all about choosing a focus and arranging the right furniture in the right configuration" and we cannot agree more! We agree that making a fireplace the focus is always the right move. Your eye is naturally drawn to the fireplace and it's often located in the center of the room. We also love the simple idea of creating a cozy and casual conversation area with a small sofa, a cocktail table and two comfy chairs. Define your small space with a great wool rug or bound piece of wool carpet cut to the perfect size. Finally, a love seat can totally serve as the main seating piece. Some sofa beds even come in love seat size and your tiny living room can double as a tiny guest room as well. Check out a few of our selections below courtesy of our design team below to create your own tiny, cozy, stylish living room and as always, visit www.weisshouse.com for more ideas and inspiration.

We Are Feeling Sleepy

We have mentioned before that Houzz (www.houzz.com) is often an inspiration for our blog topics. This week, Houzz featured "The 10 Most Popular Bedrooms of 2012" and we couldn't help but share a few of the concepts below. While many of the bedrooms were very different, Houzz noted, "plush furniture and soft textiles are consistent in each".
1. Soft, Natural Neutrals
2. Subtle Femininity
3. Glam Style in Neutral Tones
4. Mixing Patterns
5. Simple Serene Palette
Browse through the photos (below) for the Weisshouse-take on each bedroom style above. We have a team of talented designers who will transform your bedroom or any room in your home into the sanctuary that you've been dreaming of.
