Serene Style • Weisshouse Bedrooms

The average person spends 1/3 of their life sleeping, making the bedroom an incredibly important space to focus on when designing your home. We're looking back on some past work from the Weissguys and sharing a few of our favorite tips for adding serenity to your space.

1. Let your personal style define your color scheme.
Whether you're more comfortable in airy neutrals or prefer to ground your space in deep hues, choose a color palette that you find soothing.

Above: Creamy neutrals compliment the natural hues of the floor and play off the lush greenery of the patio. A white base provides a great canvas to display a collection of portraits and emphasize the lofty ceilings.

Below: Rich blacks can bring coziness to a space. This monochrome bedroom shows the importance of mixing textures and the benefits of using a screen to break up a space without feeling too heavy.

2. Use textiles to transform your space on a whim.

Whether you're in a rental or prefer to keep your walls neutral, adding textiles can help to give your space a bold personality that reflects your style. Pillows, throws, and rugs can all be swapped out from season to season or as you're own style evolves.

Don't be afraid to display artwork and collections in unconventional ways! Leaning artwork along a wall is another way to add your own touch without damaging walls if you have a security deposit looming overhead.

3. Let function guide your decor.

Consider what activities are most important to you and how your daily routine may influence your decor. Loving jumping into work first thing in the morning? Add a work station that suits your working style. If you prefer to leave paperwork out of the bedroom, a small seating group can provide a restful place to enjoy your morning coffee while catching up on a good book.

Life at The Plaza: Dee and Tommy Hilfiger's Incredible Home

As designers, we find inspiration everywhere. Today, we were inspired by Veranda Magazine and their article about a new book, Living in Style New York and the jaw dropping home that famous fashion designer, Tommy Hilfiger shares with his wife Dee in The Plaza Hotel.

It's a little bit of everything and it's all amazing. The furniture, the artwork and the way all of it comes together are just a few reasons why we're in love. If you love the look as much as we do, check out a few of our suggestions for achieving a similar aesthetic.

Over Sized Lights Done Right

When we came across this photo on our Facebook News Feed, we were delighted to see these industrial lamps used as sconces in lieu of traditional table lamps. We love the monochromatic color scheme and reclaimed wood/weathered wood headboard too. You can recreate this look with a little help from Weisshouse. We have a pair of similar lamps in-stock (see photo) and several beds that can be special ordered like the one shown.

We Are Feeling Sleepy

We have mentioned before that Houzz (www.houzz.com) is often an inspiration for our blog topics. This week, Houzz featured "The 10 Most Popular Bedrooms of 2012" and we couldn't help but share a few of the concepts below. While many of the bedrooms were very different, Houzz noted, "plush furniture and soft textiles are consistent in each".
1. Soft, Natural Neutrals
2. Subtle Femininity
3. Glam Style in Neutral Tones
4. Mixing Patterns
5. Simple Serene Palette
Browse through the photos (below) for the Weisshouse-take on each bedroom style above. We have a team of talented designers who will transform your bedroom or any room in your home into the sanctuary that you've been dreaming of.

Just Roaming About

Merriam-Webster defines a nomad as an individual who roams about. I recently learned about an awe-inspiring hotel in New York City called The Nomad Hotel. I know that I would absolutely love to roam about in one the Nomad's thoughtfully designed and well-appointed rooms. The Nomad Hotel, located at 1170 Broadway and 28th Street was designed by French interior designer, Jacques Garcia. According to The Nomad Hotel's website, "The hotel is intended as a fresh take on the classic grand hotels of Europe with a distinct New York sensibility. The design of the hotel was inspired by the Parisian flat of Garcia’s youth. The 168 rooms are residential in feel and decorated in his classic, timeless style. Each room is appointed with hand-selected, richly textured custom-designed furnishings and original artwork. The soaring ceilings throughout the public spaces provide a fine gathering place to enjoy dining, drinking and socialize."

Check out some of our Nomad Hotel-inspired picks below that are all available to order at Weisshouse and visit our showroom to speak with one of our  talented designers. Feel free to roam about our website too at www.weisshouse.com.

Warm Days, Cool Nights...Sweet Dreams

When purchasing new furniture for your home, you may often think about a cozy and stylish sofa, a comfortable chair to read in, perhaps...a new television. The last room that we often consider is the bedroom. A room that most people spend 1/3 of their life in is often considered an after thought time after time. The bedroom is a sanctuary. It is a place to lay your tired head and body after a long, stressful day at the office or a particularly tough work out with your trainer. Having said all of that, Weisshouse is here again to rescue you and your bedroom and ensure that both form and function are addressed equally in the bedroom of your dreams...literally. See above for bedroom design inspiration no matter what your budget allows complete with pieces hand picked by Weisshouse interior designers.
