The Art of Discovering Unique Objects

One of our main goals during our trip to High Point Market is keeping an eye out for unique objects and one of a kind artwork that will help give our clients space that extra layer of detail. From discarded industrial parts to outsider art, these accessories help to bring a rich history and give your home a "lived in" look that is impossible to achieve from a big box store.

Our new trove of vintage is making it's way back to Pittsburgh, but in the meantime we're looking back on some of our favorite finds from over the years.

This aluminum sculpture was found in an artist's studio after being traded for a painting. One panel shows the original artists signature. Crafted in the 1980s, the expert welding shows the artist's raw talent. Shop this item.

Large vintage passenger plane model sits regally atop a tall stand. Light and airy with a hollow metal frame that shows signs of wear along surface. Shop this item.

This playful oversized print of the three little pigs tie together the color scheme of this retro vignette.

A vintage 1960s architectural model was found in Atlanta, Georgia. The strong lines of the design provide a graphic accent with a great backstory. Shop this item.

A series of self portraits painted over a 20 year period create a bold backdrop with a soothing color palette in the bedroom of Weisshouse owner Stacy Weiss. See more of Stacy's layered looks on Pittsburgh Magazine.
This piece has stood the test of time, originally a childs toy from Sweden. Horse hide over wooden form. Reins leather. Platform is painted wood with metal wheels that roll well. Circa 1870. Shop this item.

Stay tuned for updates as we announce our new stock in from High Point!

High Impact Accents at a Low Price

Making a bold change to your living space can be as simple as switching out some old pillows and revamping your color scheme. From subtle neutrals with lush textures, to bold solids, Weisshouse is stocked to brims with unique textiles that can help transform your room in minutes.

A striking space doesn't have to mean bright colors. We love mixing neutral items with varying patterns and textures to create depth.

Bright hand painted textures can play off of the existing colors in your room.

Don't be afraid to mix patterns. From soothing cool tones to rich denims, mix and match blues to set the mood.

Define your style with bold materials. Mixing geometric hide pillows with a cozy flannel boasts rustic style with a modern edge.

Our Annual Sample Sale runs through the end of January. If you're looking to enjoy the savings, but not ready to splurge on a large item, browse our accent pieces to add new energy to your space.

These Onyx Containers are AMAZING and so beautiful. In fact, they would make lovely and completely unique Mother's Day or Father's Day gifts! They are hand-crafted in Indonesia by artisans trained by the government and other NGOs to make objects using Indonesian natural resources. In addition, these organizations teach and advise these artisans on how to open and run a small business.

Before & After: A Look Back

It's always fun to look back on past projects. It's even more fun to compare the "Before" and "After" photos. Check out a selection of our best before and after looks below. Remember, Weisshouse offers complete top to bottom interior design services.

The photos below feature a beautiful home in Squirrel Hill. The clients (a couple with young children) came to Weisshouse for help updating their home office, master bathroom and kitchen. Weisshouse designer, Ron Reinheimer was able to reflect the traditional beauty of the house but move the interior into the 21st century. In addition to selecting beautiful furniture, Ron created an airy sophisticated palette of color, accessories and artwork.

A Mix of the Past and Present

We are often featuring what's hot in the world of vintage finds here on the Weisshouse blog. Vintage pieces from the Mid Century Modern era are very, very popular right now and Weisshouse is certainly a valuable resource for finding them. It's true that everything old becomes new again. In addition to genuine vintage furniture, many manufacturers are recreating the past and reinterpreting vintage looking furniture in new ways. Mixing vintage and new "vintage" styles is now easier than ever. Bold, modern fabric prints and bright lacquer finishes on throwback chairs, sofas and tables are popping up in stores and online. Vintage credenzas from the 50s and 60s look fresh with a coat of bright paint. Vintage lamps are new when rewired and outfitted with a sophisticated lampshade in linen, silk or even burlap. Stop by the Weisshouse showroom at 324 S.Highland Avenue in Shadyside or visit our website (www.weisshouse.com) for even more design ideas and inspiration. Check out the photos below for a few of our vintage and new "vintage" favorites.
