Vintage Adrian Pearsall Tables Now at Weisshouse

A leader in early modern furniture design, Adrian Pearsall graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in architectural engineering in 1950. Pearsall founded Craft Associates in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania and became one of the country’s most prominent furniture designers during the mid-century “Atomic Age", the period of history following the detonation of the first atomic bomb. Often known for his daring designs which brought high-style to the masses, he is credited with the creation of long and low gondola sofas, free-form walnut and glass tables, and the popularization of the bean bag chair. You may have spotted the coffee table (above) in our current display window, but we invite you to come in and see these elegant tables up close.

One Very Cool Vintage Table, Many Ways

We just received this chrome and glass vintage table and we couldn't be more excited about it. The table base is composed of two pieces which means there are multiple ways to configure the table as seen in the photos above. Merriam-Webster defines an etagere as piece of furniture consisting of a set of open shelves for displaying small objects and sometimes having an enclosed cabinet as a base. The photos below feature a beautiful home in Squirrel Hill. The clients (a couple with young children) came to Weisshouse for help updating their home office, master bathroom and kitchen. Weisshouse designer, Ron Reinheimer was able to reflect the traditional beauty of the house but move the interior into the 21st century. In addition to selecting beautiful furniture, Ron created an airy sophisticated palette of color, accessories and artwork.

We are often featuring what's hot in the world of vintage finds here on the Weisshouse blog. Vintage pieces from the Mid Century Modern era are very, very popular right now and Weisshouse is certainly a valuable resource for finding them. It's true that everything old becomes new again. In addition to genuine vintage furniture, many manufacturers are recreating the past and reinterpreting vintage looking furniture in new ways. Mixing vintage and new "vintage" styles is now easier than ever. Bold, modern fabric prints and bright lacquer finishes on throwback chairs, sofas and tables are popping up in stores and online. Paul Frankl: American Modernist

"Paul T. Frankl (1886–1958), an Art Deco furniture designer and maker, architect, painter and writer from Vienna, Austria, was the son of a wealthy real estate speculator. After Frankl completed his architectural studies at the Berlin Polytechnic, he traveled, spending time in Berlin and Copenhagen before arriving in the United States in April 1914. He settled in New York City and brought with him an outsider’s fresh perspective and an enthusiasm for forging a uniquely American design aesthetic. Frankl began as an architect and later switched to designing and painting fine art and furniture. In the years between the two world wars he, more than any other designer, helped shape the distinctive look of American modernism". - Wikipedia
